Landscape Architecture

Have you ever noticed how some outdoor spaces just "feel" right, while others don't?  Or why some outdoor spaces are more enjoyable to use than others, but you can't quite pinpoint why? 

Well, chances are it is because of the attention to the design and details.  Landscape architects are trained to be cognizant of a sites surroundings, scale, construction materials, user needs, circulation patterns, site amenities and other details and elements that help create a well integrated project that provides value while enhancing the user's experience and quality of life.  In short, landscape architects are experts at creating a "sense of place".

What is landscape architecture?  To briefly paraphrase the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA):  Landscape Architecture is comprehensive by definition, and is as much of an art as it is a science in the analysis, planning, design, management, preservation and rehabilitation of the land.   Landscape architects have a working knowledge of architecture, civil engineering and urban planning and take elements from each of these fields to design aesthetic and practical relationships with the land.   Landscape Architecture  can be thought of as the design profession that unifies the outdoors - creating well-managed design and development plans that create a holistic and unified look and feel.  Landscape architects offer an essential array of services and expertise that reduce costs and add long-term value to a project.
